Our Thanksgiving spread
The day before Thanksgiving Owen and I spent a chunk of our day in the doctor's office. The little guy was horribly congested and having some trouble breathing. We did a breathing treatment, got all the passage ways examined, a chest x-ray, and a ginormous shot! Boo, I think it's about time they started making sedatives available for children's doctor visits.... for the moms.
Since Owen was ill, we stayed home and had a quiet little family Thanksgiving. It was nice to move at our own pace, considering Owen was so pitiful and needed lots of love and attention. Dave was in charge of the turkey, and I took care of all the sides; cornbread dressing, mac n cheese, green beans, and for dessert... peach cobbler(I didn't make that, Mrs. Smith did, but that's a minor detail).
The man and his bird
Now everyone knows after you cook and eat a huge Thanksgiving meal, you're supposed to take a nap. Owen took a ten minute nap. He is on a steroid that makes him... restless. People, toddlers and 'roid rage do not mix. This kid that showed up after the second dose was Owen's evil twin, I kept looking at him and saying "Owen if you're in there, don't let him win, come back". He was non stop madness until 11:45pm. It is no fun knowing you're kid is sick and frankly, temporarily out of his mind.
Trying to run off with my drumstick!
I am beyond blessed, and even though Thanksgiving was a little higher stressed than I anticipated, I was so happy just to have a day with my family all to myself. I am thankful for my sweet hubby, who has been so patient with me this year when I took on way more responsibility than humanly possible to handle, and who understands when I spend days buried in my textbooks and note-cards.
This was before the second dose
I am thankful for Yo Gabba Gabba, not only because they encourage my son to dance like no one's watching but because Dj Lance and his crew were the only thing that seemed to calm the beast within when Owen was out of control.
I am thankful for Owen, even when he's in Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde mode.
I am thankful for skype...it's true. Getting to see/talk to mom was just what the doctor ordered.
I am thankful for my family, mom, dad, sister and brother. They keep me laughing, encouraged, accountable, and inspired.
I try to give thanks everyday I'm allowed to wake up, often I get busy ( I know, I know) and don't always take time to genuinely be grateful for all I have everyday. God has blessed me too much not to be more appreciative. So I'm thankful for the couple of days with nothing on the calendar to get centered again so I can trudge on, this time being grateful first and foremost. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Ummm...the food looked AMAZING and I love that wood cutting board or whatever it was - really cool!
ReplyDeleteSorry Little O was so sickly and temporarily insane. I hope he is healthy during this holiday!
